     Practical Suggestions for Managing Lessons
1.  Show children what you mean when you give directions.  You may need to act or demonstrate entire sequences of action and have children do them while you observe and assist the first few times.
2.  Have children repeat directions to one another or say them aloud as they engage in an activity.
3.  Pair English speaking and English Language Learners so that they can check their actions with each other.
4.  Paraphrase directions so that you know you are using simple, clear language.  Watch for feedback from  students to be sure they understand.
5.  When possible, use short simple sentences that are easy to understand.
6.  Give English Language Learners more "wait and think" time.
7.  The most supportive way you can help English Language Learners is to interact with them in conversation.
